Singled Out: Mehran's The Little Song of Hope
. This is another song from the album "Angels of Persepolis" that dares to stray away from the strictly Flamenco format. It is a slow ballad that has a heavy bluesy feel. Mehran wanted the rhythm to move faster and be busier and let the guitar be relaxed and loose on top of that. Even though it has that slow rock and blues feel to it the technique used to play the guitar is Flamenco (of course a guitar pick is never used) and that is why it sounds so different. Mehran wanted the beginning to be emotional and somber. Then in comes in the Accordion by Mr. Juliano Milo (A Croatian Gypsy) that basically accentuates the same melody that the guitar plays but in his own feel. By the time the chorus comes in towards the end a glimmer of hope appears from afar. The ending is a very playful dialogue between Mehran and Juliano. It's an instrumental so it can be interpreted as one wishes, but I would say it is a romantic song with a happy and hopeful ending. Hearing is believing. Now that you know the story behind the song, listen for yourself - right here!
